Next was Replika, a long-standing AI companionship app. This time, a punky AI girlfriend named Frankie was created. She occasionally slipped into pirate speak, which added some unintended comic relief.
However, Replika’s monetization strategy quickly became apparent. Any extra features—such as voice messages, selfies, or even new outfits—required in-app purchases. Crushon.AI – Crossing Boundaries
The final stop was Crushon.AI, which leaned heavily into the “explicit content” side of AI companionship. Many of the AI-created partners were hyper-sexualized, with an uncomfortable number appearing too young for such interactions.
